New photos June 2007
Hi Danny, Been working on my
14c. Took and added 2 pieces of 3/4 plywood to the inside of
my existing short transom and made it 21" high. Of course its now twice
as thick also. Added 2 big knees and stringers
to stiffen and replaced all the bad plywood in the bow. Also added some
plywood to the forward part of the
bow to stiffen and so I could put in a bow ring. Am going to use a jack
plate to hang the motor
on so I can adjust the height. Working on my 1965 90hp Merc. Hopefully
the lower unit I have with low water
pickups fits OK and the motor runs good. Also included a photo of
the bottom of the cat hull with the deflector
the person I got the boat from had installed. My intent is to remove it
but I want to try the boat first to
see how it goes and handles with the shortshaft. Still have to glass in
the plywood bases for the seats
and a little more reinforcement for the stringers and clean up the
outside of the transom. Deck needs
some cosmetic work before it is painted and goes back on.

Well I gave up on my
Merc 90 and bought a 1977 Merc 1500.
We took the
powerhead and put it on my 1500XS mid and lower unit.
This was a
freshwater motor that came out of Mich and had been stored for about 7
years.
Runs pretty good but needs the cobwebs blown out of it. I'm
having problems getting it up on plane,
but once its up it goes scary
fast. So far I have not opened it up.

Here's my
junkyard Dog, or I should say Cat. This belonged to an
acquaintance of mine who died this April. I didn't know he had the boat
but heard
through the grapevine there was one around i the back of
someones lot. Found out where
it was and went up for a look. Sure
enough, it was in the underbrush and was
full of leaves and
outdrives and had small trees growing in it. Since I was busy with
my
14c I ignored it for the summer. Went back up a couple of weeks ago and
it was
out in the front yard, was on a trailer and the junk was gone.
So I towed it home.
All the old plywood had to go as well as the
waterlogged foam in the center hull.
Theres a few holes in the bottom
and two coats of paint on the hull which is peeling.
The deck is all
allegatored too. Only good thing is that the transom was
rebuilt to 20"
high and 3" thick. And it is still solid. Now to get the boat stripped.
Thinking about soda blasting to avoid chemicals. Hope to have it done
for next summer.
Believe boat is 64 or 65. Theres no ID in it.

Update on my 15t. Since it is cold and icy in Conn, progress is at a
crawl. Hull is stripped except for the bottom. Sanded the deck, all 3
coats, and found it to be red. Also found some familiar bolt holes
exactly where I had a ski bar tripod bolted on to my old red decked
Power Cat 35 years ago. The mounting plates were custom made and old
pics of the boat confirmed the location. Since there were so few Power
Cats up here in Conn back in the 60's and the coincidence of having an
exact same ski bar seems pretty remote, so I believe this to be my old
boat. Unfortunately there is no ID plate, my friend had the boat
registered as homemade and he is now deceased. So I have no way of
checking for sure, but I am glad I found it. Will get it inside when
my friend gets heat in his garage. Will also try to get some pics out
to you when I had it 35 years ago and now as stripped. Tore apart the
old trailer, added new crossmembers and bolted on new planks for the
hulls to rest on. Just carpeted them and have the boat back on the
trailer. Not too hard to do that in the cold. Will get some photos out
as soon as I can and I hope you can use some of this info in my boat
descriptions.

Danny, Here's
a couple of pictures of my previous 15T as it appeared 35
years ago when I first had it.
It was very basic and had two fiberglass
swivel bucket seats, was powered by two Merc 50 hp
manual start
outboards and had two 6 gal gas tanks. No electrics at all. It was
simple, fast and trouble free.
Hope you can use these with the rest of
the photos of my boats. Thanks and have a great New Year.
